What is a Ceremonialist?
In order to praise, grieve, process, and celebrate life's big changes, human beings throughout time have created ceremonies and lived by ritual. Sometimes rituals are solitary, but frequently they are shared with community so that our commitments, our healing, our grief, our endeavors, our celebrations may be witnessed and supported
by those willing to hold a safe space for us.
For me, daily ritual, starting and closing my day by consciously connecting to the Divine, is essential to my well being, my productivity, and my ability to be
present and joyful in a constantly changing world.
Having attended, assisted with, and finally conducted ceremonies of various traditions for three decades, there are certain elements I find to be consistently useful and universal.
There is also need for deep listening and flexibility allowing for inspiration to shine through.
If you would like assistance in creating a ritual to help you move through a life change, honor an ending, celebrate a completion or set an intention for a new beginning, I invite you to share a conversation with me that we might collaborate to create a ceremony that will be meaningful to you and help you to achieve your intention.

What people say
Joan is an accomplished "ceremonialist," bringing her great energetic and spiritual sensitivity, warmth, kindness and depth of experience to her work of "clearing" places. She has visited my home numerous times and worked through it with great attention and care, using herbs, drumming and other techniques to free, clear and open the entire atmosphere. Mine is a retreat house and each time she leaves, I feel she has brought the entire space back to its pristine condition. I have been amazed and delighted with how fresh, open, clear and free the entire place feels.

I found my Reiki session with Joan to be deeply relaxing. The sense of relaxation and clarity persisted long after the session ended. It certainly felt to me that shifting my physiology and my mental state to an unfamiliar and wonderful place. As a biologist, I see humans, indeed, all living things, as vast interconnected networks of chemical, thermodynamic, and electrical processes. Our current scientific understanding usually focuses on what we do know about these processes. Nevertheless, an honest scientific assessment of our current state of knowledge reveals that much is shrouded in mystery. I feel that Reiki works on the “springs and levers” of our being that lie in this mysterious realm
